Lake Tekapo is a highland lake and settlement on the southern island of New Zealand. It rests at 2300 feet and is located in the heart of the Mackenzie District. The name Tekapo derives from the Maori words Taka (sleeping mat) and Po (night). Finely ground rock in the glacial melted waters gives Lake Tekapo its turquoise color.
